The exceptional holistic benefits of Krill and Krill oil have been proven time and time again for many species, including humans.  It has far surpassed even fish oil for similar functions and offers many other natural benefits.

The blanket term ‘Krill’ refers to all 85 deep water marine planktonic crustacean species, which combined make up the world’s most abundant biomass. Krill has been informally harvested since the early 1800′s and they are one of the most efficiently renewable food resources.

Krill is available in several forms for our pets, including frozen, various grades of ‘meal’, whole freeze-dried, flaked/ground freeze-dried and oil. These can be used as ingredients in homemade pet food recipes or mixed with commercial food as a natural supplement. Cats will often eat pieces of  freeze-dried Krill as a nutritious treat.

Krill is rich in DHA, Phospholipids (stimulates the building of cell membranes) and Essential Fatty Acids, including Omega 3, 6 and 9. Both DHA and EPA are crucial to fighting and preventing disease and overall health.

Astaxanthin, a carotenoide, is abundant in Krill. In fact, over 95% of the pigments present in krill are in the form of astaxanthin, measuring a whopping 100 to 300 parts per million (ppm=mg/1). It is a more powerful antioxidant than Lutein, Alpha-tocopherol, Lycopene and Beta-carotene.

As a supplement, Krill Oil is naturally more stable and bio-available than fish oil and it contains no heavy metals. Krill far outperforms fish oil for heart and liver fat reduction. It is also higher than fish (and vitamins A & E) in antioxidants.

The natural immunity enhancement provided by Krill through its amazing nutrient profile is combined with unique contributions such as Chitin, which is 2.4 – 2.7% of their dry weight. It also promotes early development of the immune system, resulting in increased survival rates of newborns.

Since scientific research on the effects of any item can be lacking for specific species, we suggest you research the known benefits of each holistic component to determine what krill offers to your pet. Following is some basic information to get you started:

I ordered krill from you after researching the benefits. After almost six months of feeding it to my 3 cats and 2 dogs……..you’ve got a big fan! Their coats are gleaming and my oldest dog’s range of movement has increased noticeably. My Ragdoll cat placed second in her first show 2 weeks ago and one judge mentioned how her healthy coat catches the light. Thank you so much for supplying this effective natural product.

    • Melody - Admin says:

Congratulations to your show kitty, Rachel, and thank you for taking the time to share your experience with Krill. All the best to you and your furry friends!

  2. Ritchie says:

Adding freezedried krill to my fish’s diet made such a huge difference I started giving it to my dog and 3 cats. We follow the show circuit with bengal cats and breed.

How did I not here about this before now????? I’m going to research some more, thanks! Can people eat it???

    • Melody - Admin says:

Clayton, I don’t think there is such a thing as human-grade freeze-dried krill, but krill oil is available as a human supplement.

I am so enjoying everyone’s comments and thank you for taking the time to post. :-)

  5. Sal says:

Ordered some of your krill to keep the sunburn away from our chihuahua this summer….I’m excited about the other benefits now.

  6. Rick MacDonald says:

I priced krill at a pet store & needless to say I came back & ordered from you. I also ordered some fish food so with the flat rate shipping its a good deal thanks. I’ll post after getting it OK?

  7. hanson says:

It’s underrated (or unknown anyway) for most pets (except fish) but it’s truly one of the best food available for pets. I learned so much from this krill article about why that is (I was only aware of the omega 3 and astaxanthin benefits).

  8. Jenny says:

Our fish and cats go wild for krill!

  9. Allie says:

Krill is one of the first things we feed when we receive fish & reptile shipments and even to some birds that eat insects. It gives their immune system a nice pick up and it’s something they can’t resist even when they’re stressed out from traveling. I just found out abut the ground krill and it should arrive soon so I can mix it with food for other animals too. This is a very informative site & I thank you for the information.

  10. Rhonda BC says:

Krill oil is becoming popular for humans but like any extract it’s only part of the good stuff. I’ll stick to freezedried krill for my pets which includes 1 dog, 3 cats, 1 lop rabbit, my daughter’s pony and hundreds of tropical fish!

  11. Collin says:

The astaxanthin in krill is very digestible for animals, fish & humans and that’s why I use it.

  12. Neal says:

Krill is one of the few kinds of fish food that is good for all feeding habits which makes it very versatile in the fish-room.

  13. Jerry70 says:

I’ve been keeping fish for almost 40 years and I’ve never tried anything that beats krill. I put it in my agar food & grind it up for fry to make them grow big & strong. Their color is breathtaking and I’ve raised quite a few show winners!

  14. Eve says:

My dogs and cats all get freeze dried krill and occasionally krill & fish oil. I don’t know if it’s better than fish oil but it does come with different benefits so I give them both.

  15. Hammer it Calgary says:

I think I’m paying your mortgage with all the krill I buy from you LMAO. It’s good stuff and economical goodness though, even my pet frogs love it.

  16. Clifford says:

I just started feeding krill to my cat after reading this and she liked it. I’ve been giving freeze dried krill to my fish for a long time but I just didn’t think of giving it to the cat.

My cat goes nuts for krill too!

  18. Sans Snails in Ontario says:

I’ve been raising fry on krill for over 30 years and my fish have won many fish shows. I’ve placed in shows with my guppies, many cichlids, swordtails and once with a corydoras paleatus colony. It really brings out their colours and they’re huge. I like that your krill is Canadian and its fresh colour.

  19. Skippydooda says:

Krill is really good for fish and it makes them really colorful!

  20. Krill Oil says:

We add krill oil to our cats & dog food but its really expensive.

    • Canada says:

Well I’d say by the feeding frenzy in my cat’s dishes right now we have a hit. My order arrived yesterday and I sprinked it on their raw breakfast this morning and the fish smell got them all riled up before it hit the floor.

My cats love love love krill! I put it in every recipe I make for them!

I ordered krill from you a couple of months ago and have been adding it to my cat’s canned food. She has long hair and is starting to shed her winter fur so I brushed her today……….. she is positively gleaming!! What a difference in her coat!!!

  23. Jarred Burn says:

I been feeding krill to my grow-out fish for years and it hasn’t failed me yet. They grow fast, strong and the guppies have tails that you wouldn’t believe.

  24. Marge says:

I have to agree on the smell but my cat doesn’t :-) .
