There are so many new terms and belief systems that have emerged (or reemerged) with the natural lifestyle. Homeopathy alone causes much confusion for pet parents.
We have Samuel Hahnemann to thank for medical homeopathy. The physician/chemist developed the system way back in the 18th century. Homeopathy revolves around balancing the pet’s ‘vital force’ (Chi) with energy similar to the disease to restore equilibrium.
It sounds like a very ‘hocus pocus’ cure, doesn’t it?
Homeopathy isn’t intended to provide a cure for pets like medicine, but instead enables the animal to cure himself. Natural components derived from plants and mineral sources are matched with disease patterns, which in turn balances the system and rids it of disease. Preventative measures are considered to be just as important as addressing the issue at hand.
Three laws form the basis of homeopathic healing:
1. The Law of Similars – If the treatment would sicken a healthy pet, a similar treatment will cure an ill pet experiencing those symptoms.
2. The Law of Proving – The plant and mineral extracts have been proven effective in tests on healthy people.
3. The Law of Potentization – The substance is potentized through dilution.
Veterinarians usually practice pet homeopathy as part of general holistic pet care. They may use nutrition, herbs, acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, behavior modification, and other holistic pet care methods.
While homeopathic remedies may work a little differently in pets than in humans, it has still proven to be an effective method of natural pet health and wellness.
