Apple & Sweet Potato Muffins with Minerals for Horses

1 cup Oat Bran
1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
3/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Sea Salt (fine)
3 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Calcium Montmorillonite Clay natural mineral supplement
1 TBSP Powdered Seaweed/Algae
1/4 cup unsweetened Apple Sauce
1 egg
2/3 cup Milk
3/4 cup Chopped or Grated Apples
1/4 cup Grated Sweet Potato

  1. Preheat oven:  400F
  2. Bowl 1:  Mix dry ingredients together.
  3. Bowl 2:  Mix wet ingredients together.
  4. Pour bowl 2 into bowl 1 and mix until moist.
  5. Spoon into muffin tins lined with baking cups or use large pet foil baking cups.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Please consult your veterinarian before making changes to your horse’s diet.

  2. I finally got around to making these muffins for my horses. They’re a bit heavy but apparently horses don’t mind heavyness because they ate them enthusiastically and wanted more.

  3. What a fantastic recipe!!! So nutritious and my horse loves them. We board him so I like to take special treats on weekends and this gives him lots of goodness too. Please post more treat recipes for horses.

  4. I just bought a young filly and in my enthusiasm made a bunch of horse treats for the freezer. This apple & sweet potato recipe is one of her very favorites and I love how good it is for her growth.
