The folks at Fresh Dog invited us to test and review their Natural Dry Shampoo. The powder is intended to deodorize a dog between shampoos with its lavender rosemary scent that comes from infused essential oils, and it may also be used on bedding. Lavender essential oil is also good for skin conditions and Rosemary is used for healthy hair growth. This shampoo is pH balanced specifically for a dog’s skin and is suitable for all fur types.
The company boasts that this USA product is free of dyes, parabens, phthalates, GMOs, triclosan, chemical preservatives, synthetic fragrances, sulfates, surfactants, and detergents. The dry shampoo ingredients are Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda), Zea Mays (Corn Starch), Silica, and Essential Oils (Lavender & Rosemary). Each container is made with 100% recycled paper.
Our friends, Chrystal and her daughter, Jessica, graciously volunteered to test it on their two adorable Boxers, Apis and Romeo.
Chrystal writes, “We tried the Fresh Dog Dry Shampoo Powder this evening on our 2 Boxer Dogs, Apis and Romeo. The first thing I noticed was that the bottom of the container was coming off and the packaging didn’t seem very sturdy, but as this is a natural product I expect that the packaging is probably environmentally friendly and was not too concerned.”
“We started with our white female boxer. We really liked the scent of the product and it made her smell really good! Next we tried it out on Romeo. He has a dark coat so we found that the powder was really quite chalky and we had to rub it in more with him (although he didn’t mind that in the least!)”
“We used it out on the deck as I think it would be pretty messy to use in the house. The dogs smell fantastic, the only real negative I can think of is that I don’t think it should be called a shampoo as I feel a shampoo is for cleaning the dog and this is more of a deodorizer. My daughter suggested that it would be really good between shampooing when they need a quick sprucing up! We didn’t need to use very much of the container to do both big dogs so it will last us quite a long time.”
After a few days of living with the product, Chrystal reported that the dogs still smelled great. The ‘chalky’ feel lasted a couple of days which may have been due to their dogs’ short coat. Romeo has sensitive skin, but he showed no signs of negative reaction to Fresh Dog Natural Dry Shampoo Powder.
Overall, it appears that this product does what it is intended to do – deodorize. The negative points may be addressed with using less powder, but that would also make it more labor intensive. We love the natural ingredients and environmentally friendly packaging.
Availability: You can purchase a large, 12 ounce container of Fresh Dog All Natural Dry Shampoo Powder for Dogs online.
Our thanks to Chrystal, Jessica, Romeo and Apis in British Columbia, Canada for their assistance!

I definitely will order some, my dogs are large so shampoing is a pain.
Great job on the review, I appreciate the objectivity and that you had someone else test it. This is one of the most credible and responsible websites I’ve found about pet care actually. My pets are part of the family and I never try anything with them unless I’ve done some intense research.
The scratch & sniff picture is hilarious 😀 I must live in a cave because I’ve never heard of dry shampoo for dogs or people but I agree that it sounds like a great solution for quick freshening.
Thanks for including a note about sensitive skin because I’ve been wary of trying a dry shampoo for that reason. My standard poodle has sensitive skin and has to use a special shampoo but she may be ok with this product.
What a great idea! I’d use it myself LOL
We’re on our third bottle and it’s great stuff for camping or when we don’t have time to bathe our shepherd (which is quite an ordeal). It’s also wonderful when guests are coming over.
It’s a little pricey but if it lasts a long time it should be worth it. I think I’ll try it and let you know.
Beautiful Boxers!
Sounds like a great idea between shampoos!
